Mills writes that Moore (who she calls Malon B.) was the first postmaster and he rode horseback to Salt Lake City and back to get his commission. In 1882, he became the postmaster at Shaffer at the junction of Harris and Shaffer Creek. (p.208)

Notes:
The map by Merle Wells on Idaho State Historical Society Digital Collections shows a settlement called Boston southwest of Centerville. I double-checked the Postmaster book and I still do not find a post office named "Boston." In "Gold Camps & Silver Cities/Nineteenth Century Mining in Central and Southern Idaho" (Idaho Department of Lands, Bureau of Mines & Geology, Moscow, Idaho, 1983) Wells refers to it as Boston Bar.
I also double-checked Granite, which is marked on my favorite old (1976) Forest Service map. It's on Granite Creek, northwest of Placerville, roughly half-way between Placerville and Quartzburg. But if there was a post office there, it was some other name. The banner photo is one I took there twenty or thirty years ago. . .
